Test Modules

The award-winning Mu Test Suite is designed from the ground up to address the challenges of testing IP Services. The Mu Test Suite provides a set of modules that empower test teams to quickly accurately and thoroughly test their IP service at a fraction of the current cost.

Product architecture of the Mu Test Suite

Studio Fx: Studio Fx enables customers to quickly, accurately, and thoroughly test the Functional and Interoperability aspects of an IP Service. Studio Fx rapidly auto-generates message exchange scenarios that serve as the foundation for creating thousands of functional tests. These messages are recreated with state being maintained, as opposed to replay tools that only execute a blind replay of the original bits in the captured traffic.

Studio Zx: Studio Zx enables customers to quickly accurately, and thoroughly test the Resilience and Security aspects of an IP Service. Studio Zx auto-generates thousands or millions of fuzz tests from the original service flow provided by the tester. These fuzz test cases are specifically built for the message exchange being tested in order to expose hidden weaknesses before the service is deployed on a live network.

Protocol Fuzzing: Protocol Fuzzing is an effective way to test the Resilience and Security aspects of an IP Service. The Mu Test Suite supports a comprehensive suite of millions of dynamically created fuzz tests, along with intelligent automation for isolating software bugs. The dynamic protocol fuzz tests generated by the Mu Test Suite enable rapid and precise identification of previously unknown weaknesses and vulnerabilities within a target IP Service. Mu's customers launch millions of fuzz tests against their IP Services to proactively expose weaknesses and take action to remediate them before these issues lead to field fire drills.

Denial of Service (DoS): DoS testing is a critical aspect of testing IP Services for Security and Resilience. The distributed Denial of Service (DoS) Simulation Module from Mu allows characterization of the effects on an IP Service when stateless traffic is sent at user-specified rates. With IP Services it becomes necessary to test for specific DoS scenarios, even at the application layer where one sees a high degree of customization. Any service will stop responding at some point due to resource exhaustion, or due to protection mechanisms. This could occur due to a malicious attack or even due to inadvertent usage spikes in the service.

Published Vulnerabilities (PV): Testing for published vulnerabilities is a critical part of Security and Functional testing of IP Services. Mu’s Published Vulnerabilities (PV) Module within the Mu Test Suite is a subscription service that offers monthly updated test coverage against a continuously growing list of actual known vulnerabilities. The PV subscription mirrors the latest real-world attacks found in the wild on the Internet. Mu’s PV module provides testers with coverage against the latest known vulnerabilities, and allows them to verify whether their signature-based security enforcement device vendors (e.g., firewall, IPS, etc.) are providing signatures that are effective at blocking attack traffic, over IPv4 or IPv6, with or without obfuscation.
