"Using the Mu solution for a combination of functional, interoperability, security and resilience testing enables us to provide our customers with the industry’s highest quality IP services. "

Tier 1 Network Operator

Test Content

The Mu Test Suite, embodying Mu's adaptive approach to testing, enables users to leverage a rich set of test content as input for testing their IP service. For the first time, users are not restricted to limited, difficult-to-modify static test cases provided by test vendors. Instead, users are empowered to create test cases that accurately reflect their IP Service's environment in a very short time. Instead of waiting for standards to solidify, users can begin testing as soon as network traffic is captured from the IP Service.

The three types of test content are:

  • Customer-generated test content: For the first time, users can quickly create tests based on their own unique IP Service implementations.  As a result, the test cases are tailor-made for each specific environment, significantly improving the relevance, coverage and effectiveness of the tests.

  • Community-supported test content: Mu is the first company to build an online user community for the sharing of packet captures for IP service testing at http://pcapr.net/. Mu's users can also access and post XML templates to Mu's Community portal, so Mu's customers all benefit from their peers' particularly clever test configurations.

  • Mu-provided test content: Mu also provides tens of millions of test cases for the most common networking protocols, as well as a subscription service providing monthly updates on the very latest Published Vulnerabilities.

Shared Test Assets
Users can import traffic or create monitors or restarters that are used during testing, and these objects are fully reusable, leveraged toward other types of testing. For example, a packet capture (pcap) that is imported and saved as a scenario to be used to perform fuzzing on certain packets in the exchange, or used to perform functional or interoperability tests based on options that are exposed as objects associated with the scenario. The Mu Test Suite's XML templates facilitate two types of sharing:

  • Within the system (so users can leverage one core XML template as a basis for multiple test types)
  • Between systems (so users can easily share XML templates between groups or companies)
The Mu Test Suite's employment of shared test assets makes it extremely scalable, which preserves and enhances users' investments as the Mu Test Suite evolves over time, ensuring that Mu's users will reap dividends from their investment in a true IP Service testing platform.
