External AnalysisThe Mu platform separates the notion of service modeling
with the service monitoring. While Mu provides numerous ways of generating
traffic variations, there are thousands of existing scripts and tools
(internally developed, free, open source or commercial) in which a customer
might have an investment. With External Analysis, the Mu-4000 is able
to leverage its significant automation infrastructure to bear to improve the
usability of the tools, thereby vastly improving this aspect of the
productivity of IT or lab staff.
In External analysis, the Mu-4000 is connected as a transparent bridge between
the traffic generation tool (Generator) and the Target. The Generator transmits traffic under the direction of the Mu-4000 and the Target receives the traffic. The Mu-4000 drives the Generator
in a methodical lock-step manner such that the traffic generation is controlled
to facilitate Fault Inspection and Fault Isolation. In External Analysis, Instrumentation is a command run on the Generator and the fault isolation is triggered based on the output of this command, which may reflect the health of the target, but need not be directly interacting with the target. As with other types of analysis, the
Mu-4000 can be configured to monitor the Target (or any other host in the test bed) during the analysis to trigger fault isolation based on the output of any command.
